Michigan Schools Need Our Voices

We're Michigan school families, educators, and communities

advocating TOGETHER for what matters.

The future of public education is one of the most critical issues shaping Michigan's 2026 elections. For decades, powerful interests have sought to divert funding from local classrooms and promote privatization schemes that dismantle public education. Fortunately, Michigan voters have declined these attempts at every turn.

However, culture warriors and their manufactured crises are continuing to distract educators and students. Their disingenuous tactics wasted over $3.2 billion in 2024 alone. Heavily funded schemes from extremist organizations are only getting darker and more desperate. They've promised to ban books and curriculum, recruit and train pastors to preach fallacies from the pulpit, and intimidate schools with legal threats.

Enough is enough. We need leaders who are ready to roll up their sleeves and collaborate on real solutions for the long haul.

Together for Michigan Schools elevates leaders who stand firmly with Michigan’s students, educators, and families. We are engaged PTO families, school volunteers, and public education advocates across Michigan.

We spend our time and energy highlighting what matters to strengthen student outcomes.

Every day spent on fallacies and disinformation is another day taken from Michigan students who depend on elected representatives to give them the best chance to succeed.

Our PAC identifies and supports candidates across the ballot who share our practical priorities. Add your voice to protect our schools and make a difference.

  • Equitable Education Funding

Michigan students require equitable education funding, regardless of their zip code.

At the state level, we expect candidates to sponsor, shape, or support initiatives to improve the state's current funding model (Proposal A).

We also support the role that millages and bonds play in Michigan's current funding model for local school districts.

  • Reject Privatization Schemes

Michigan voters consistently reject privatization schemes, like vouchers or student opportunity scholarships. These tactics drain funds and resources from neighborhood schools, and promote corporate tax credits.

Private schools and charters can also discriminate by deciding who they accept, and they often struggle to meet students' needs for 504 plans and IEPs.

  • Strong Public Schools

Public schools are the foundation of thriving communities and a strong economy.

We understand every parent's role in education (380.10), but do not indulge attempts to bully and threaten educators into applying one family's personal preferences to every other student.

We honor truthful history, accurate health education, and freedom to access age-appropriate materials in school libraries.

We advocate for all students to experience an inclusive and welcoming environment to learn, grow and thrive.

We expect that every student in special education, or with a 504 or IEP, is given every opportunity to achieve their best potential.

We support programs to attract and retain high quality educators.

We also support steps to protect student safety and mitigate threats of violence.

  • Evidence-Based Practices

We advocate for science- and evidence-based best practices for curriculum and success measures to achieve optimal educational outcomes.

Elected leaders should emphasize the real issues facing Michigan schools, from educators' and constituents' perspectives, including the detrimental costs and burdens of manufactured culture-war issues on student and educator morale.

Improving Michigan's public education outcomes takes time and a more equitable funding model. Our site shows how public education advocates have to fight steep battles to protect and grow funding for the necessary resources. We have a long way to go to achieve equity.

Why endorse?

"Since the late 1950s, national think tanks and billionaire-backed groups have waged quiet, coordinated campaigns against the United States' education system. Many of the most heavily funded initiatives are rooted right here in Michigan.

Our state is public school proud. Voters have turned down every privatization scheme at the ballot box. Still, federal stunts and local astroturf groups continue to threaten funding, access, and opportunities with their playbook talking points.

Together for Michigan Schools offers something unique: a vote of confidence and stamp of approval for vetted candidates. We are volunteer public school parents immersed in the real and manufactured issues facing our schools. Our earned endorsements reflect an honest understanding of Michigan’s education landscape.

Disingenuous attacks have clouded my kids' entire K-5 experience and have divided our community. I'm stepping up to highlight what matters, voice what others cannot, and keep our schools on track." - Founder, Becky Olson, Michigan public school parent
